H.R.1529: MAPSA Act

Overview

The MAPSA Act (H.R. 1529) would end the supplemental security income (SSI) marriage penalty for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD). This bill would clarify that SSI benefits for an individual with I/DD can not be reduced due to marital status. The bill would also prohibit reviewing a spouse’s income and assets when determining the benefit amount for an individual with I/DD. Lastly, the bill would allow all individuals with I/DD access to Medicaid benefits if they qualify for SSI benefits, regardless of income or assets.
