H.R.1691: Teacher Victims' Family Assistance Act of 2019

Overview

The Teacher Victims’ Family Assistance Act of 2019 would direct the Secretary of Education to assist the immediate families of K-12 teachers or other school employees who are killed by another person’s violent act during their performance of duties for a public or private school. Below are the significant provisions the bill would provide to victims’ families:
(1) Funeral assistance not exceeding $1,500.
(2) Death benefit payment to the surviving spouse, dependent child, or other next of kin of $325,000.
(3) Monthly living assistance for the surviving spouse until death or remarriage and for each dependent child until age 18.
4) Undergraduate education assistance for each dependent child for five years or until age 25.
