H.R.3172: Safe Sleep for Babies Act of 2019
The Safe Sleep for Babies Act would make illegal inclined sleepers for infants, which is defined in the bill as a product with sleeping surfaces that are inclined more than 10 degrees and marketed as sleep furniture for children younger than one year. Under the bill, violations would be punished according to existing product safety law, which provides for civil fines as large as $100,000 per violation and criminal penalties, including as long as five years in prison. A series of violations could result in civil penalties as large as $15 million.
S.1767 is the Senate companion bill.
