H.R.4065: Food for Thought Act of 2019
The Food for Thought Act (H.R. 4065) would create a pilot program for community colleges to provide meals to students. Specifically, the bill would authorize the Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) to provide $6 million in grants to community college campuses to establish a free meal program for eligible students and conduct campus outreach. FNS would provide technical assistance to grantees in administering the program in consultation with state education agencies and community colleges. Additionally, grantees under this bill would be directed to collect and share data on the prevalence of food insecurity on their campuses.
