H.R.4201: Baby Box and Maternal Assistance Act of 2019
H.R. 4201 would create a grant program that would provide funding for newborn care training to expecting parents as well as the training and services of certified Doulas or Midwives. This bill would also provide expecting parents with a “Baby Box” that has a collection of baby products and educational materials. The box itself is designed to serve as a sturdy and mobile sleeping space for an infant’s first months of life.
- The U.S. has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the developed world. Investing in parental training and services has been shown to decrease unnecessary child deaths
- Universal “Baby Boxes” would provide direct resources for expecting parents and would disproportionately benefit low-income families
- The National Assembly supports this bill because it would increase the availability of resources for all parents and children and improve their health and well-being.
