S.1176: Expanding Disability Access to Higher Education Act

Overview

The Expanding Disability Access to Higher Education Act (S.1176) would expand the participation of students with disabilities in the TRIO and GEAR UP programs. This bill would appropriate $50 million over the next five years to new grants within the TRIO program for the purposes of supporting students with disabilities apply to, participate in, and graduate from institutions of higher education. Additionally, these grants would be used to provide training and technical assistance for faculty and staff on best practices on outreach and accommodations for individuals with disabilities. S.1176 would also provide $10 million in funds to create or improve Offices of Accessibility on college campuses, and increase data collection and reporting to collect information about students who are served by TRIO programs.
