S.2501: Access to Healthy Food for Young Children Act of 2019

Overview

The Access to Healthy Food for Young Children would expand and strengthen the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Specifically, the bill would:
1) Increase CACFP reimbursements rates by 10 cents for each meal and snack;
2) Appropriate $20 million in funding over the next five years to support the new CACFP healthy meal patterns, which aim to increase consumption of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, while reducing consumption of added sugars.;
3) Streamline program paperwork in high poverty areas;
4) Allow additional CACFP meal services (typically snack or supper) for full-day childcare; and
5) Lower the qualification threshold for home providers reimbursement from 50 percent to 40 percent.
