S.2587: Continuation Of Useful Resources To States Act

Overview

The COURTS Act (S. 2787) would extend the Court Improvement Program (CIP) through 2023. The program provides approximately $30 million in grants designed to train judges and attorneys in handling of child welfare cases, increases timeliness of court decisions regarding the well-being of children, and improves engagement of families in court proceedings related to child welfare.

H.R. 4514 is the House companion bill. H.R. 4514 is different in that it would reduce the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) contingency fund at $200 million to pay for the CIP extension.
