S.2760: Caregivers, Access, and Responsible Expansion for Kids Act of 2019
Overview
The CARE Act (S. 2760) would help support children raised by grandparents or relatives other than their parents by ensuring automatic access to free school meals. Under current law, children who do not formally enter foster care, and instead are placed in the care of grandparents or other relatives are not automatically eligible for free school meals. This bill would expand automatic eligibility for federal school nutrition programs for children living in unusual kinship care arrangements.
