S.470: Medicare at 50 Act
Overview
The Medicare at 50 Act (S. 470) would create a Medicare-buy-in option for any citizen or permanent resident ages 50 to 64. Under this bill, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) must determine enrollment periods and set premiums for the buy-in option under specified requirements. The CMS would also award grants to states and nonprofit organizations for outreach and enrollment activities relating to the buy-in option. Additionally, the bill would repeal restrictions in Medicare Part D that prohibit the CMS from negotiating the prices of prescription drugs on behalf of Medicare recipients.
