S.609: Protecting JOBs Act

Overview

The Protecting Jobs Opportunities for Borrowers (S. 609) would prevent states from suspending, revoking, or denying state-issued professional licenses solely because borrowers may default or be delinquent on a federal student loan. The bill would achieve this goal by using a similar statutory structure that requires certain members of the Armed Forces receive in-state tuition as a condition of the states’ colleges and universities receiving federal funds under the Higher Education Act. The bill would take effect two years after enactment.

H.R. 3689 is the House companion bill.
