S.788: Equality Act

Overview

The Equality Act would prohibit discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas including public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, credit, and the jury system. The bill would expand the definition of public accommodations to encompass establishment that provides transportation, goods & services, or recreational activities. Additionally, the bill specifically prohibits denying access to a shared facility, including a restroom, a locker room, and a dressing room on the grounds of gender identity. The bill would allow the DoJ to enforce this law through intervening in equal protection actions in federal court
