S.J.RES.6: A joint resolution removing the deadline for the ratification of the equal rights amendment.

Overview

On March 22, 1972, Congress passed the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which if ratified, would guarantee equal legal rights for all American citizens regardless of sex. However, the amendment was meant to sunset in 1979 if the needed number of state legislatures did not ratify it. This sunset period was extended to 1982 but never met the required rating states. This bill would remove the deadline for the ratification for the ERA.

H.J.Res. 79 and H.J.Res. 38 are the House companion resolutions
